Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 1, 2026. This policy explains how Pumply accesses, collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects information when you use the Pumply app and website.
1. Who We Are
Pumply is an independent digital platform operated in Ghana. Pumply helps people find fuel stations, compare fuel information, and contribute community reports. Pumply is not affiliated with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) or any Oil Marketing Company (OMC).
Privacy questions or requests can be sent to [email protected].
2. Information We Collect
Depending on the features you use, Pumply may collect or process the following information:
- Foreground location data — When you grant location permission, Pumply can use your device location to show nearby stations, help position the map, verify that a fuel-price or station-information report is being made near the relevant station, and help you place a submitted station correctly. Location may be precise depending on your browser or device permission.
- Anonymous device and session identifiers — Pumply creates random identifiers stored in your browser or app storage. We use them for rate limits, abuse prevention, session analytics, and to understand repeated activity. These are Pumply-generated identifiers, not your IMEI, SIM serial number, or advertising ID.
- Community submissions — Fuel prices, availability, station names, brands, fuel types, station coordinates, addresses, station corrections, and other information you choose to submit.
- Feedback and support information — The message and category you submit through Pumply feedback, plus optional contact information if you choose to provide it.
- Usage and analytics information — Events such as searches, station views, price views, failed or blocked submission attempts, app version, screen size, and related feature usage. Certain Pumply analytics events can include rounded latitude and longitude when location is relevant to the event.
- Technical and diagnostic information — Browser or device characteristics, operating system, app version, error or crash information when diagnostics are enabled, and standard network information such as IP address and request headers that may be processed by our hosting, database, security, and infrastructure providers.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide nearby-station, map, search, and fuel-price features
- Verify proximity for community reporting and station submissions
- Review, moderate, and publish useful community contributions
- Detect spam, manipulation, duplicate submissions, and abuse
- Understand how Pumply is used and improve reliability and features
- Diagnose technical problems and protect the security of the service
- Respond to feedback, support requests, and privacy requests
4. Location Data
Pumply requests location only while you are using features that need it. We do not intentionally collect background location. We do not sell location data or use it for advertising. Your personal device location is not displayed publicly to other Pumply users.
Station coordinates are different from your personal location. If you submit or correct a station location and the submission is approved, that station coordinate may become part of Pumply's public station data. Pumply may also store rounded coordinates with certain internal usage events to understand demand, improve results, and detect abuse.
5. What May Be Public
Pumply is community-powered. Approved fuel prices, fuel availability, station details, station coordinates, and similar contributions may be displayed publicly as part of the service. We do not intentionally publish your Pumply device identifier, session identifier, optional feedback contact details, or personal device location with those contributions.
6. Service Providers and Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We use service providers to operate Pumply, and those providers may process information on our behalf as needed to provide their services. Current or supported providers include:
- Supabase — database, storage, authentication-related infrastructure, and server-side functions
- Render and Cloudflare — application hosting, website delivery, and network infrastructure
- MapTiler — map styles and map-tile delivery
- PostHog — product analytics when enabled
- Sentry — error and crash diagnostics when enabled
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, protect Pumply or its users, investigate abuse, or respond to a valid legal request. Some service providers may process information outside Ghana under their own privacy and security terms.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including operating Pumply, maintaining data quality, preventing abuse, resolving disputes, and meeting legal or security obligations.
Community fuel-price and station records may be retained for longer because they form part of Pumply's historical and public fuel-data record. Where appropriate, device-linked or contact information can be removed or separated from retained community data.
Pumply does not currently require ordinary users to create an account. You can clear locally stored Pumply identifiers by clearing the app's or browser's site data. To request deletion or correction of information held by Pumply, email [email protected]. We may need enough information to identify the relevant submission or record before we can process a request.
8. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect Pumply data, including encrypted network connections, access controls, server-side validation, and restricted administrative access. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
9. Your Choices and Rights
You can deny or revoke location permission through your browser or device settings, although features that depend on location may not work correctly. You may also contact us to ask about, correct, or request deletion of information associated with you, subject to applicable law and legitimate retention needs.
10. Children's Privacy
Pumply is a general fuel-information utility and is not designed or directed specifically to children. We do not knowingly ask children to provide personal information through Pumply.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as Pumply changes. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and revise the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle personal or sensitive data, we will provide any additional notice or consent required by applicable law or platform policy.
